Late Night: Rami Khalife

By Rami Khalifé

Rami Khalifé was born in a Lebanese family that breathed music. His father is the ud master Marcel Khalifé – the ud being an Arabic lute. Khalifé chose the piano, and was educated by grand masters like Abdel Rahman el Bacha. He is a graduate of the prestigious The Julliard School in New York. By now, Khalifé has strayed from the classical musical path, filling his performances with singing, improvisation, dancing rhythms, and alternating between lyrical passages with catchy rhythms. Tonight you’ll hear the piano as you’ve never heard it before.

Late Night: The quietude of John Cage

‘An absolute masterpiece: metaphysical, philosophical. A true experience of meditation and self exploration’, Tiberghien calls John Cage’s Sonatas & Interludes for prepared piano, also called the ‘Goldberg Variations’ of the 20th century.
